Hey Doc, anything else I can do to help my gums besides flossing? Like maybe wearing a tray...

Why, yes, dear patient, there is.

It sounds pretty far out there but there is an easy and effective way to improve your gum health. It involves wearing a specially designed, custom made mouthtray in which you place a low concentration hydrogen peroxide gel.

Since the bacteria reproduce quickly under the gums, it can be a challenge to keep the bacteria from infecting your gums between dental cleanings. So, ideally, in addition to brushing and flossing, you wear the trays for additional treatment and protection.

The PerioProtect System is a gum disease treatment approach that combines in-office dental cleanings with effective follow up treatments at home. After you come in and have your dental exam, the doctor will recommend the best treatment for you to get your teeth and gums cleaned. Measurements will be completed and impressions of your mouth made and sent to the lab to have your trays made. After about 2-3 weeks, we will schedule you to come in and make sure the trays fit well and then you will be sent home with the trays and the PerioProtect Gel. You simply put a thin ribbon of the gel in the tray and wear it for 15 minutes while you go about your day. In the begining you may be asked to repeat the treatment 2 -4 times a day. This approach is easy to use and it treats the bacteria causing your gum disease in a comfortable way.

As an additional benefit, your teeth may whiten s-l-o-w-l-y resulting in a subtle change over a long period of time with minimal whitening sensitivity.
